BACKGROUND

[In January 1997, the Southampton Town Board voted at their discretion to change the protective zoning at the mostly wooded, 516 acre Bridgehampton Racetrack. (The only disturbed area was around the racetrack.) This violated their own "anti-degradation" policy as sated in the Town Code's "Sole-Source Aquifer" §330-63. Below is a "Fact Sheet" created in 1998 explaining its location and impacts before the golf course was built.]
