CONTAMINATION AROUND NOYAC GOLF CLUB
Approximately 45 private wells located in Noyac around the Noyac Golf Club are contaminated with TCP, a breakdown product (metabolite) of the pesticide, Dachtal. One individual that we know of, also had contamination from the pesticide, Ethofumesate. The TCP contamination even reaches into the Morton Wildlife Refuge, and, in 1999 was just a few feet away from the bay. Many of the homeowners were told not to use their water for drinking and had to install expensive and elaborate charcoal filtering systems. Some were additionally cautioned only to shower in tepid water with the windows open (even with the filtering system). The Town did not help these people in any way for over seven years. It was only through the efforts of John Destefano, a Task Force member, and president of Carroll Street Remdiation (one of the areas affected by the Rowe Industry toxic plume) that a public water main was brought into this area that the people were able to hook up.
